CVTC is an open door, nonresidential institution granting associate degrees, technical diplomas and certificates. CVTC also provides
customized training to business and industry. CVTC student enrollment exceeds more than 6,000 credit students per year. The eleven-county district served by CVTC includes 250,000 residents. Eau Claire, Wisconsin is 85 miles east of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Since the mid-90s, CVTC has increased the flexibility of its offerings to full-time students, working adults and anyone in need of technical education. Distance learning including Internet, ITV (Instructional Television Networks), computer assisted instruction and other modes of instruction is an emphasis.
Placement of graduates has averaged more than 95 percent since the mid-1990s.

Governance:
A nine member board is appointed by elected officials in eleven counties.
Appointees are selected from areas of representation.
Faculty:
If the highest teaching honors in the Wisconsin Technical College System and the Wisconsin Vocational Association are used as criteria, Chippewa Valley Technical College has the most honored faculty of the past decade among the 16 colleges of the WTCS. Full-time faculty at CVTC number 215. Chippewa Valley Technical College also has numerous adjunct faculty with excellent experience in business and industry.
