About Us
Founded in 1919, the Phillis Wheatley Association has served the Greenville, South Carolina community for 88 years by empowering individuals and families to grow to their fullest potential. Our purpose is to nurture the development of youths and to partner with local organizations to offer programs and services that enhance self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life for underserved and unserved citizens in Greenville and surrounding areas.
PWA has a Youth Development Institute that through out-of-school and after school programs, our staff and volunteers work to support and enrich the academic and social development of youth in grades K-12. Additionally, PWA has a strong performing arts program, The Phillis Wheatley Repertory Theatre for Youth, which during its 25 years of service has impacted the lives of hundreds of at-risk youths with our Upstate community.
