The Company:
Powell Flutes has been a leading producer of professional quality, flutes since 1927. We work in silver, gold, platinum, and wood, and are regarded by many as the Stradivarius of flutes. Our flutes and piccolos are used by some of the most important symphony orchestras in the world. During the past two years we have introduced several new products which have produced healthy growth for the company.
The People:
The people of Powell are extraordinarily talented. Many employees have a college degree, and the work force is diverse. Approximately half are highly motivated refugees from Eastern Europe, Mainland China, and other locations who have excellent academic credentials and who also take pride in working with their hands. The people who work here usually do so because they have an emotional stake in what we do. Typically our employees are musicians, artists, or engineers.
Compensation:
Our market is small - at more than 50 employees we are probably the largest maker of professional flutes in the USA - but we believe in having the best people in our industry and compensating them accordingly. Powell pays for the majority of employee medical plans and for insurance policies, which include short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance. All 401(k) administrative fees are paid 100% by the company.
Location:
We are located in Maynard at the historic Clock Tower Place on the Assabet River. Clock Tower Place is located near the Junction of Rte 27 and Rte 62, and midway between Rte 95/128 and Rte 495.
