Elementary Tutor / Academic Support Leader
Boys & Girls Club of Manhattan
Job Location: Manhattan, Kansas
Job Type: Part-Time

Our all-day enrichment program is designed specifically for students attending programs when schools are closed/unavailable for on-site learning due to COVID-19.  The goal is to increase young children’s motivation to complete school work while building relationships/trust with their peers and staff. Tutoring and support will take place Mondays & Tuesdays or Thursdays & Fridays from 7:30am-3pm. Shifts for our Academic Tutor/Support Program Leaders will be available and flexible.  



Assist and tutor students with school coursework provided by their classroom teacher in small group settings.


KEY ROLES:  (Essential Job Responsibilities)


Prepare Youth for Success:


Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:

  • Promote and stimulate program participation;
  • Provide guidance and role modeling to members


Program Development and Implementation:


  • Work with the Director of Clubhouse Services to plan and implement established activities during school hours.


  • Implement activities that will help kids make connections with their own lives.


  • Help kids participate in virtual coursework and other activities assigned by USD 383.   


  • Provide a safe environment for social and emotional growth/development.




Maintain thorough records of attendance, progress in curriculum, and any member conduct or other issues.








Internal:  Maintain close contact with Director of Clubhouse Services to receive/provide information about students’ progress and discuss issues.


External:  Maintain contact with parents or guardians in order to communicate about Club activities, explain or interpret Club guidelines, and address any conduct issues relative to members.


May be required to communicate with or work closely with school principals.




  • High School diploma or GED
  • Experience in working with children
  • Knowledge of youth development and interest in childhood learning
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to use/follow a curriculum to instruct students
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment




  • Hours completed towards an elementary or secondary education degree
  • First Aid Certification (training provided)
