Prestigious San Francisco plaintiff personal injury law firm has a temp-to-hire litigation paralegal position for an individual with experience in personal injury/medical malpractice/product liability litigation. Must have a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved school, some knowledge of medical terminology and records, and expertise in responding to and managing discovery. Bilingual in Spanish is required. Full benefits with a competitive salary offered.
Will work remotely until January when they anticipate rolling back into their Financial District offices. The bulk of the paralegals time will be spent in responding to discovery in these types of cases which will also involve interacting with clients and therefore good conversational skills are a must. A background in reviewing medical records proves helpful and summarizing medical bills is necessary.
Review file and perform all work required to create draft responses to all discovery
Serve final discovery responses and forward to clients for verification
Obtain documents from clients to respond to discovery and support liability and damages claims
Communicate with secretaries regarding upcoming due dates and deadlines, and be aware of responsible attorneys availability for finalizing responses
Order records such as medical records, medical bills, police reports, etc.
Summarize medical records and bills
Under close guidance and supervision from attorney obtain lien information and provide notifications to all lien holders
Corporate searches for primary place of business
Obtain copies of articles/books from UCSF, SFGH, Stanford, online, etc.
Online searches for last known address of defendants
Organize & index medical records
Deposition summaries as requested
Attend defense medical examinations
Attend vehicle inspections
Upon settlement of a matter coordinate with secretaries working on the case, to contact all experts and vendors requesting that all outstanding invoicing be promptly emailed or faxed
Ensure that any last-minute costs are promptly approved, and Accounting are made aware to include such costs on the settlement statement
Looking for a seasoned paralegal, (5-10 years) ideal. Individuals with civil personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, and medical malpractice backgrounds are most sought out. Ideally, candidates would have plaintiffs background.
