General Summary
Is responsible for conducting financial transaction between customers and the Bank. Handles savings and borrowing customers at the teller window, receiving funds, posting transactions and paying out funds as required. Is responsible for cash and balances daily transactions, checks on and answers routine customer inquires , satisfies customers regarding minor account problems and performs other duties and work activities that are supportive of teller operations.

Essential Function
Using a computerized teller terminal: processes deposits, withdrawals, cash transactions, loan payments, check or journal voucher transfers, checks, inquiries balances daily all transactions. Stands at the teller window the majority of the work day, informs customers of Capitol Federal's products and services, cross-sells these items to enhance other products and services, handles various customer inquiries, helps with minor account problems, encodes checks, microfilms transactions, processes traveler's checks and bond transactions, helps customers with lock box transactions if the office has the availability of lock boxes.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to read at a level usually obtained with a high school education in order to comprehend written materials provided in teller training, use the Operating Guide and proofread data entries that are necessary to transact business and provide information.
  • Ability to retain knowledge of correct posting terminology and procedures, teller policies and procedures, inquiries, ordering checks and processing lost check affidavits, traveler's checks (and giving customer correct instructions), bonds and balancing procedures. Ability to pay close attention to detail and concentrate on each daily activity pertaining to teller work.
  • Ability to use basic math skill which is normal achieved with a high school education, and to comprehend customers' demands in order to process transactions correctly and balance the cash drawer daily. Ability to spell correctly usually achieved through a high school education for the purpose of typing letters and be able to file and retrieve signature cards.
  • Ability to lift a cash box weighing five to ten pounds from the secured areas to the teller station and back again at the end of the work day, lift coin bags weighing 20 pounds to 30 pounds from the teller area to the secured area at the end of the day, obtain and lift lock boxes with varying weight for customers from the lock box area to lock box room and back again.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and to travel through the teller area to other areas of the office, ability to reach, bend and move in order to perform the functions of the position.
  • Ability to learn and retain the proper procedures for using personal computers, calculators, encoders, microfilmed, typewriter, coin counter and drive through facilities.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and be able to work with customers daily regarding their transactions, giving information about our products, and helping them with minor account problems.
  • Ability to handle the stress of continual customer contact, balancing of daily transactions and continually standing at the teller window. Ability to learn, retain and follow various policies and procedures of the Bank including, but not limited to, dress code, attendance, and confidentiality.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Receives payments from customers for loan payments, savings deposits, answers inquires pertaining to loan payments, records amounts and dates of payments and other significant information, checks customers calculations and validates checks and/or counts cash payments.
  • Receives and processes savings withdrawal requests. Insures that customers have sufficient withdrawable funds in accounts to cover requests.
  • Maintains favorable customer relations through proper handling of all collection and disbursement functions, exercises discretion, judgment and initiative regarding transaction problems and procedures.
  • Receives and answers questions on Bank policies and practices and maintains good customer relations, directs customer to appropriate employees for answers to complex problems or inquires, discusses problems related to specific accounts and refers more difficult questions to the Branch Teller Supervisor.
  • Issues Traveler's Checks and money orders, receives currency for coin and verifies amounts, processes the redemption of bonds, cashes checks according to the Bank's written procedures.
  • Daily balances work transacted. Is assisted by the Branch Teller Supervisor in reconciling errors found.
  • Maintains files of various records and cards related to accounts.
  • Carries forward ledger cards, assists in proofing daily transactions and returns ledger cards to file.
  • Performs clerical and other teller related duties such as training of new tellers when assigned.
