Brief Description of the Job:
Maintain City streets, sidewalks, and buildings. Rehab existing sidewalks, curb gutters, and install new sidewalks, slabs, and walls. Tear out existing concrete, re-grade, form, and pour concrete. Take several training and certification courses. Use heavy equipment such as backhoe, bob cats, mini-excavator, front end loader, etc. Clean storm drain gates, keep equipment clean, wash sidewalks, lay pavers, install silva cells, operate large and small excavators, weld, help in engineering design, read blueprints, pipe fitting, surveying, fabrication, art work, culvert and storm, trench and shore, cut steel, build building`s from site work to completion, foot floor walls, plumbing, electric, shelves, cabinets, roof.
- Job Duties
Operate the Back Hoe (20%): Grade sub base and daily inspection check oil hydro levels. Tear out concrete, tire pressure, and grease joints. Put stone or crush and run to level grade.
Form Concrete (20%): After grade is level mark out linear footage of area for forms. Place pins with string line from end to end. Place forms against line to ensure forms are straight. Pin in place then put expansion boards in specified location.
Pour Concrete from Truck (20%): Have visual contact with driver for instructions. Control shoot as concrete comes down shoot. Watch out that it doesn`t pick up on help.
Finish Concrete (20%): Once concrete is placed in forms it must be screed float edges. Bull float whole surface. Once stiff enough bust joints at specific footage do edge speed trowel to level surface. Once bleed water is gone broom surface.
Traffic Control (10%): Look at jobsite, get game plan, and make note of obstructions in area. Put up signs as needed. Get cones or barricades and arrow boards.
Operate Equipment for Snow Removal (10%): Check truck before functions, sanders blows sand. Plow raises and lowers. Sand icy roads and plow side roads and main intersections. You must have radio communication with base to assist with other areas that need service.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Overall Strength Demands: Heavy strength demands include exerting 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
Physical Demands: Continuously requires standing, walking, vision, bending, crouching, hearing, and talking. Frequently requires lifting, carrying, reaching, kneeling, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Occasionally requires fine dexterity, crawling, climbing, foot controls, and balancing. Rarely requires sitting.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids: : Rubber tire loader, georgia buggy, rammex, jack hammers, snow plow/sander, excavators, dump trucks, water wagon, mixers, chainsaw, concrete saw, vibra screed, pressure washer, blowers, hammer drills, and basic hand tools.
Computer Equipment and Software: None.
Overall Working Conditions: Disagreeable: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
Environmental Factors: Daily exposure to extreme temperature, respiratory hazards, noise and vibration, and physical hazards. Weekly exposure to wetness and/or humidity.
Health and Safety: Frequent exposure to mechanical hazards and physical danger or abuse. Occasional exposure to chemical hazards, electrical hazards, and fire hazards. Rare exposure to explosives.
Primary Work Location: Outdoors (Jobsite).
Protective Equipment Required: Steel-toed boots, vest, goggles, dust mask, ear plugs, hammer shields, knee pads, gloves, harnesses, and hard hat.
Frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, irregular schedule/overtime, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, working closely with others as part of a team, and noisy/distracting environment. Occasionally requires emergency situations and tedious or exacting work.
Formal Education: Six (6) months to one year of advanced study/training past the high school equivalency is required.
Experience: Over four years up to and including six (6) years of experience in operating heavy equipment and finishing concrete is required or equivalent construction experience.
Driver`s License Required: A valid Class A South Carolina Commercial Beginner`s permit is required. Once in classification, employee must obtain corresponding Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 4 months.
