- Job Description
Brief Description of the Job:
Perform maintenance responsibilities related to the City`s parks, facilities and community centers. Assist with the maintenance of the turf, park amenities, special projects and events. Assist during storm clean up and weather related events. Responsible for assisting the Park District Manager in leading and directing the work crew.
- Job Duties
Turf Maintenance (60%): Cut grass and weed eat throughout the City`s park facilities. Fertilize, aerate and over-seed park turf. Installation of plant material (trees and shrubs). Assist with park maintenance projects and improvements.
General Park Maintenance (30%): Responsible for litter removal and maintenance of park amenities such as: playgrounds, picnic shelters, park restrooms and athletic facilities. Perform and delegate duties on job site as directed by the Park District Manager. Performs duties of immediate supervisor in his/her absence.
Special Projects and Events (10%): Assist with the set-up and clean-up of special events and assist with various City related projects.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Overall Strength Demands: Heavy strength demands include exerting 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.
Physical Demands: Continuously requires walking, lifting, and vision. Frequently requires standing, carrying, climbing, foot controls, balancing, hearing, and talking. Occasionally requires sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, bending, crouching, and twisting.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, and Work Aids: Mower, truck, blower, weed eater, hand tools, rakes and heavy equipment.
Computer Equipment and Software: None.
Overall Working Conditions: Disagreeable: Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards.
Environmental Factors: Daily exposure to extreme temperature, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration. Weekly exposure to physical hazards. Monthly exposure to wetness and/or humidity. Seasonal exposure to physical hazards.
Health and Safety: Occasional exposure to communicable diseases.
Primary Work Location: Outdoors (Public Parks).
Protective Equipment Required: Safety glasses, ear protection, steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety vest, and hard hat.
Formal Education: High school diploma or equivalent plus six months to one year of advanced study or training in Landscaping / Horticulture are required.
Experience: Over one year of experience in/as Landscaping / Horticulture is required.
Driver`s License Required: A valid Class B South Carolina Commercial Learner`s Permit is required. Once in classification, employee must obtain Class B South Carolina CDL within 4 months.
