Minimum Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age, and must have current Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid Certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in some phase of aquatics operations. Considerable ability as a swimmer, plus skill in rescue work, resuscitation, and first-aid. Knowledge of principles and practices of pool rules, policies and procedures.
Special Instructions to Applicants:
Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations and perform life-saving/rescue procedures. This is a temporary non-benefit earning position. Job Description:
Opens/closes and prepares the aquatics facility for patron use. Performs chemical and water levels tests on swimming pools and arena fountain, and makes necessary adjustments. Checks life-saving gear and related equipment for readiness and availability. Performs maintenance and housekeeping duties and ensures facility restrooms and deck areas are clean and free of safety hazards. Employs CPR, First Aid, AR, and rescue breathing and maintains general safety and security of the Aquatics Center. Watches over the safety and compliance of swimming pool patrons. Responds in an effective, professional, trained manner to any life-threatening or emergency situation. Enforces policies/procedures and reports any immediate situations to the Aquatics Coordinator or University Police. Interacts daily with swim teams, students, faculty, and the general public. Performs cash transactions and daily revenue reconciliation. Enrolls members and keeps daily patron counts, training logs, and other information as required. Provides assistance and accommodation to patrons.

Ability to recognize potential or existing life-threatening situations and react calmly, quickly, and effectively to an emergency situation. Ability to respond appropriately under stressful circumstances. Ability to work individually or with co-workers in a team-oriented environment. Ability to perform cash transactions and reconcile daily revenue. Excellent interpersonal/customer service skills. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds, bend, stoop, sit for extended periods of time and perform other duties associated with patron safety. Knowledge of principles and practices of pool rules, policies and procedures.
