Job Description:
The CRNA provides anesthesia and anesthesia related cares services for patients under the supervision of anesthesiologists. Follows established standards and practices setforth by the Department of Anesthesia.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Employee in this position perform the following technical competencies:
Perform and document a pre-anesthesia assessment and evaluation.
Administer pre-anesthesia medications and fluids.
Develop and implement an anesthetic plan that may include general, regional, and local anesthesia and intravenous sedation.
Select, obtain, or administer the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis, and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
Select, apply, or insert appropriate noninvasive and invasive monitoring modalities for collection of patient physiological data.
Manage a patient's airway and pulmonary status using endotrachial intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy or extubation.
Manage emergence and recovery from anesthesia by selecting, obtaining, ordering, or administering medications, fluids, or ventilatory support in order to maintain homeostasis to provide relief from pain or anesthesia side effects, or to prevent or manage complications.
Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency drugs or fluids or using basic or advanced cardiac life support.
Additional nurse anesthesia responsibilities, which are within the expertise of the individual CRNA.
Participate in professional development activities and maintains professional licensure and certification.
Maintain patient confidentiality.
Participate in promotional events as they relate to the department.
Complies with all Regulatory agencies, directives, standards and regulations.
Works under supervision of a Medical Doctor-Anesthesiologist.
Job Qualifications: EDUCATION: Graduate from approved school of nursing. Graduate from a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. Continuing education of 40 hours every 2 years as required by AANA Council on Recertification.
LICENSURE: Valid Missouri registered nursing license. Valid APN license. Current certification from AANA Council on Recertification. BLS certification required, ACLS required every 2 years.
EXPERIENCE: May start immediately after graduating with experience and medical oversight.
ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS: Must be able to speak clearly. Requires full range of body motion. Good hand/eye coordination and ability to lift patients.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to assess, evaluate and monitor patient needs for anesthesia. Must be able to work with all types of personalities and professionals.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Manual/hand dexterity, extensive standing. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES: Absence of mental problems that could interfere with the practice of anesthesia.
ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Hearing, visual skills and feeling.
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: Frequent exposure to body fluids, toxic substances, communicable diseases, flammable liquids, needle sticks, and other conditions common to medical environments.
