Bakery Sheeting Machine Operator (3rd shift) $18.11

Job Location: Schaumburg, IL

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinates the activities of employees assigned to the sheeting line, including training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
Requests the Bill of Materials (BOM) from Gatekeeper/Lead for the product in production.
Checks that ingredients staged by Gatekeeper match the ingredients requested in the BOM.
Ensures that outer layer of ingredient packaging is cleaned and removed prior to using.
Enters weights into the Statistical Process Control (SPC) program as indicated.
Loads ingredients such as flour, corn meal, breadcrumbs, etc. into the applicators and maintains appropriate amount to ensure consistent output.
Works with the Gatekeeper to ensure pallet quantities match tag quantities for any ingredients returning to the warehouse or ingredients that are passed to the next shift.
Ensures product is meeting customers specifications.
Sets programs on the sheeting equipment and associate panels.
Starts, stops, adjusts, and operates sheeting equipment using approved methods and notifies Line Lead or Supervisor when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of expertise.
Operates auxiliary equipment associated with the operations of the sheeting line including but not limited to: weigh scales, conveyor systems, cutter hoists, etc.
Requisitions ingredients and other supplies stated on the BOM for delivery to work stations from appropriate personnel.
Ensures that work area is maintained in a clean sanitary condition.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department, line or team.
Analyzes production problems, and assists team members in solving them.
Maintains process control paperwork in accordance with HACCP recommendations, including but not limited to: weight and SPC control; and time and yield efficiencies.
Ensures that all containers are labeled, color coded, and handled properly using established methods and procedures.
Inputs all the necessary information into the master downtime log, and completes other related paperwork as necessary.
Performs setup and breakdown of sheeting line equipment including cutters, flour dusters, dockers, etc.
Schedules and monitors employee breaks and reports any deviancies to the Line Lead.
Confer with other Lead and Shift Supervisor in order to best plan changeovers, labor needs, and material and tool requirements.
Ensure the operation of equipment, work environment, and production personnel adhere to safety guidelines.
Achieve established goals and objectives for production output, customer quality specifications, and other related targets.
Suggests ways to control labor and supply costs as well as improve processes.
Ensures that all work activities are performed with attention to the highest standards for quality, safety and compliance with all appropriate legal and food safety requirements and a focus on continuous improvement.
Ensures that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed.
Follows all company policies & procedures as well as the GMP's (Good Manufacturing Practices).
Maintains a high level of safety awareness for an accident-free work place.
Reports any unsafe or hazardous work conditions or safety-related issues to Management.
Accomplishes all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

Education, Skills and experience:
Education:
High school, GED or equivalent.

Skills and Experience:
One to three months of food manufacturing or packaging experience.
Ability to work overtime, irregular hours or rotating shifts.
Ability to speak, write and understand English.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of diverse individuals within the plant.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, formulas, and policy and procedures manuals.
Ability to write standard information into related paperwork.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure including but not limited to pounds, ounces, grams, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and temperatures.
Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment.

Organizational Structure:
The Bakery Sheeting Operator will report directly to the Bakery Supervisor.

Compensation

Average annual salary: $35,000 - $45,000/year which includes:

Hourly pay of $16.86-$18.11/hour, based on experience

Overtime after 40 hours per week; average work week 40-50 hours per week

Opportunities for advancement positions paying $50K-$60K/year

Work Schedule

5-day work week; Rotating

Work 9pm-5am or until the work is completed, typically 8-12 hours per day
