Our client, 1300-employee national manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced HR Manager to embark on a temporary assignment at their Marlboro, MD location.
Responsibilities:
Employee Relations, Recognition and Legal Compliance
- Provides employee relations support, guidance and counseling to employees and management resulting in effective resolution of issues.
- Maintains a highly visible profile to employees and maintains an open, sincere disposition for employee concerns and suggestions. Promotes employee recognition programs to build positive morale and reduce turnover.
- Identifies local state legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. Also ensures policies and procedures are communicated and administered effectively.
- Represents organization at unemployment hearings and participates in investigations.
Training
Develops and conducts effective training programs as needed.
Compensation
- Directs performance review and salary administration programs to ensure effectiveness, compliance, and equity within the organization.
- Analyzes and conducts wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive salary ranges.
Recruitment
- Directs all phases of recruitment including development of alternate recruiting sources, advertising, quality interviewing and screening resulting in the hiring of top caliber employees.
FMLA / STD Administration
- Ensures compliance of FMLA practices and documentation with applicable state and federal regulations. Administers leave process and coordinates applicable STD payments.
Workers’ Compensation / Safety
- Directs the processing of all workers’ compensation claims. Coordinates efforts with employees, site management, medical facilities and insurance adjusters for effective resolution of claims. Plays an active role in the Safety Committee to facilitate reduced injury rates through training and positive employee morale building.
Requirements:
- BS degree in Human Resources, Business or similar relevant discipline is required, MS or MBA preferred.
- ***Experience in an union environment highly preferred***
- 5-7 years experience in the Human Resources function, preferably as a generalist in a distribution or manufacturing environment, is required.
- Teamwork and continuous improvement skills and experience are required.
- Excellent communication skills required – both written and verbal.
- Must have a willingness to train and be comfortable with public speaking.
- Prior experience creating and delivering training programs required.
- Knowledge of Federal and State labor laws, combined with analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Must be organized and able to follow through on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have excellent people skills including the ability to resolve employee conflicts within the organization.
- Proficiency with Word and Excel computer programs is required.
- Some travel required.
