Job Description
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Iowa State University (www.me.iastate.edu) invites applications for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions to begin Fall 2009. Candidates will be considered for positions at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor ranks. Applications from candidates with research expertise in all areas of mechanical engineering are encouraged to apply. In particular, the department is expanding its research programs in the areas of biological and nanoscale sciences, clean energy technologies, complex fluid systems, design and manufacturing innovation, and simulation and visualization.

The College of Engineering comprises 8 departments, with 217 faculty members, and annual research expenditures exceeding $60 million. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is nationally recognized for its research and educational programs in the traditional and emerging areas of mechanical engineering. Opportunities for research collaboration include affiliation with Bioeconomy Institute, the CyberInnovation Institute, the Ames National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy, the Center for Nondestructive Evaluation, the Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies, the Virtual Reality Application Center, and the Institute for Combinatorial Discovery. With enrollment of 1000 undergraduate and 190 graduate students, the department's student body is one of the largest in the country, and the undergraduate program ranks among the top-ten nationally in terms of BSME degrees awarded. The department is centrally located on campus with a combined 52,000 ft2 of modern teaching and research facilities.
Successful candidates will teach undergraduate and graduate courses; develop a vibrant and impactful research program; and engage in professional and institutional service and leadership.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a closely-aligned field. Candidates for the ranks of Associate or Full Professor must, in addition, have a record of scholarly achievement commensurate with such appointments.
