The Intermediates business within INVISTA produces chemical intermediates for the manufacture of nylon and spandex (Terathane), a range of specialty effect chemicals (DBE. DYTEK, C12, Terates) and nylon polymer. The business has a focused vision to maintain and grow its position to be the world's most successful chemicals and polymers business. INVISTA Intermediates is continually increasing its product portfolio by new product and product application R&D and the efficiency and effectiveness of its manufacturing assets by process development and new process R&D.

INVISTA Intermediates has a product focused R&D organization supported by a number of key fundamental capability functions such as analytical chemistry, advanced process modeling and control etc, which are leveraged globally. Increasingly INVISTA Intermediates is looking to broaden its search for innovation ideas by developing and building relationships with external world class academic and government institutions and consortium.

In support of its long-term vision, INVISTA Intermediates is looking to strengthen its team supporting and developing new products and applications for our aromatic polyester polyol products (TERATE). We are currently seeking an ambitious, talented development chemist to join this team based in Wilmington, NC.

Job Responsibilities:
We are searching for an experienced chemist to become a business team member and join our research and development group in Wilmington, NC. The Wilmington Plant is one of the world's largest producers of Dimethyl Terephthalate (DMT) and polyester polyols. Other products include pure terephthalic acid (PTA) and the co products from the DMT production.

Our chemists develop and improve aromatic polyester polyols for foams, urethane systems, coatings, and adhesives applications for our TERATE line as well as provide technical support to our current customers. They are also responsible for the scale-up and commercialization of new products and processes and for leading several projects simultaneously.

Among your personal qualities you should have good problem solving and decision making skills coupled with an ability to communicate well, gain the commitment of others and work effectively in a team.

You should be highly motivated with regard to your professional development and to the achievement of objectives on a demanding schedule.

Qualifications:
* PhD in polymer science or closely related field. BS or MS with relevant experience may be considered.
* Industry experience in polyols, polyurethane systems, polyisocyanurate rigid foam and flexible foam highly preferred. This role requires expert knowledge of technology in these fields; polymer synthesis, characterization, and structure-property relationship, etc.
* Must have hands-on lab experience developing and testing products/processes and working with technicians to produce sample batches prior to trial runs in production.
* Must be driven to continue professional development and achieve objectives on a demanding schedule.
* Demonstrated excellent problem solving and data-based decision making skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively within your team as well as with internal and external customers.
* Moderate travel required. Must be able to represent our products and technologies at customer locations during field trials.
* Previous experience supervising laboratory technicians a plus.
* Previous experience managing multiple projects preferred.
