Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with a Secondary Teacher’s Certification in Physics and Chemistry required.
The candidate must also attend Project Lead the Way training required to teach Pre-Engineering.
Must complete training required to teach Advanced Placement courses.
Three years successful teaching experience preferred.
Job Duties
1. Teach Chemistry, Physics, and Pre-Engineering courses as assigned.
2. Develop appropriate curriculum in science and engineering that meet or exceed the course scope and sequence required by sending school districts. Effectively integrate project-based learning into science and pre-engineering curricula. This will include the integration of engineering standards.
3. Exhibit superior interpersonal skills needed to work with students, teachers, administrators and other staff members.
4. Meet with students, parents, and sending school counselors to ensure appropriate students are placed in Pre-Engineering Academy. Assist in developing academic/career plans, assist in planning for post high school transition, assist with development of student portfolios, schedule relevant tours, job placement, and participate in annual open house/engineering fair.
5. Evaluate student achievement by interpreting multiple data sources. This will include participating in an effective evaluation committee and implementing effective evaluation strategies.
6. Develop and foster partnership with external groups that represent business and industry, higher education, communities, sending schools, and civic and professional organizations. The outcomes of these partnerships will include agreements to provide curriculum alignment and career pathways; opportunities for student mentoring, practicum’s, and job shadowing; student scholarships; effective advisory committees; promoting and marketing; and scheduling speakers.
7. Coordinate and lead First Robotics competition activities.
8. Work with students involved in the Skills USA organization to develop leadership skills.
9. Be available in program to assist students prior to, during and after scheduled class time.
10. Maintain professional competence through participation in staff development, in-service education activities and appropriate professional organizations.
11. Maintain inventory of equipment utilized in the Engineering Technology program.
12 Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing as much as 50 pounds (pumps, motors, accumulators, TV, etc.) and/or to push items weighing up to 500 pounds on a dolly or cart (power units).
13. Complete other tasks or projects as requested by Director of Full-Time programs, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent/CEO.
Standards of Performance:
Science instructor – Pre-Engineering Academy will be evaluated on the previously listed responsibilities prior to November 15 and again prior to February 10 to determine satisfactory compliance. A third evaluation will be held in March during which time the instructor will again be evaluated on these items and given a 1 5 rating of performance. These evaluations will determine salary increases and career advancement possibilities.
