Vacancy Description: Job Summary:
Responsible for the performance and reporting various technical, chemical, microscopic and microbiological tests to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment. Performs these tests in the areas of Hematology, Coagulation, Chemistry, Bacteriology, Blood Bank, Serology, and Urinalysis. Also responsible for, but not limited to, performing specimen collections, routine equipment operation and maintenance/repair, inventory control, quality control, calibration, workload recording, and quality assessment. Properly utilizes the LIS and all other computer programs related to patient care. Demonstrates positive customer service skills.

Technical: Performs technical function in all areas of the Laboratory.
Technical: Performs venipunctures, heel and finger sticks, and drug screen collections using established laboratory techniques on all ages of patients.
Technical: Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret orders or Laboratory tests.
Technical: Proves proficiency in test performance and in LIS use over all disciplines of the Laboratory.
Technical: Completes work in a timely manner. Expected Turn Around Time is achieved 95% of the time.
Technical: Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to all ages of patients. (Age Specific Competency must be completed timely.)
Technical: Endorses policies and procedures of the department and of the hospital. (HIPAA, Attendance, Exposure Protocol, Dress Code)
Technical: Uses professional telephone etiquette.
Technical: Distributes hard copy reports as necessary. Example: Reference Lab, Pathology, etc.
Technical: Performs duties in a manner which minimizes organization’s exposure to risk through adherence to safety policies.
Technical: Follows established procedures for Quality Control and waste disposal.
Technical: Assists with Inventory Control, including receipt and storage of supplies.
Technical: Assists in maintaining the Laboratory Policy & Procedure manuals as requested.
Technical: Assists in training of new employees or other hospital departments as requested.
Technical: Performs and documents equipment maintenance and repair.
Technical: Troubleshoots and assists in resolution of instrument problems, staffing issues, and other processes in Laboratory as needed.
Technical: Demonstrates ability to handle stress. Communicates effectively with internal and external customers.
Technical: Recognizes tasks that need to be addressed and acts according. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements: Education / Regulatory Requirements:
Blood Bank experience preferred
Doctorate in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science.
Or a Master’s in medical technology, laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science.
Or a Bachelor’s in medical technology, laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science.
Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP or equivalent.
Language Skills:
•Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
•Additional languages preferred.
Additional Skills / Knowledge:
•Operation and maintenance of standard laboratory equipment.
•Skill in phlebotomy procedures.
•Basic Computer knowledge.
