Description:
The Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Arkansas invites applications for one (1) tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning August 2008 or as negotiated. This is a 9-month position with salary based upon qualifications. Candidates are encouraged to apply who can contribute to the department's recognized accomplishments in the areas of Site Design, Sustainable Design, and Cultural Landscapes.
The Department of Landscape Architecture has a diverse faculty of five teaching approximately 75 undergraduates, and is in the School of Architecture. Established in 1976, our accredited five-year program focuses on site design and planning, and emphasizes community planning, public realm, parks and recreation, wetland reclamation, history, and historic landscape preservation. The professional program requires a six-week summer European studies program that is coordinated with the UA Rome Study Center and conducted annually. The department also offers a four-year Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture Studies.

The University of Arkansas was founded as a land grant college and university in 1871. As the flagship campus of the University of Arkansas System, the UA Fayetteville campus serves at the state's center of liberal and professional education and is Arkansas' source of theoretical and applied research. The School of Architecture has a Community Design Center and a botanic garden in Hot Springs-Garvan Woodland Gardens. The university has a nationally recognized GIS center (CAST). Setting:
Northwest Arkansas has a particular confluence of picturesque beauty, a folk and blues music tradition, and international craft fairs. Minimum Requirements:
Minimum qualifications are demonstrated potential to teach in design studio, Computer Applications/Digital Technology, and at least one of the following: History/Theory, Design Communications (hand), Landscape Urbanism, Site Design and Planning, Practice/experience, or Construction Technologies. Also, the candidate must have demonstrated potential for scholarly work in an area transferable to courses taught in the landscape architecture professional curricula. Applicants must hold at least one accredited degree in landscape architecture and a terminal degree in landscape architecture or related field. This individual must contribute to curriculum development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications are professional licensure, Ph.D. in landscape architecture or related field, 3 or more years of professional experience, and 3 or more years of teaching experience.
