The Counselor Education program offers masters and doctoral degrees. The M.S. degree is offered in counseling in three specialty areas: Community Counseling, School Counseling, and College Counseling. The Community and School Counseling programs are CACREP accredited. The Ph.D. degree in offered in Counselor Education and Supervision and is CACREP accredited.

The College of Education and Health Professions offers degrees at the undergraduate and graduate level with more than 3,000 students pursuing coursework both on-campus and off-campus. The College is comprised of academic units based in six buildings on the Fayetteville campus. More than 200 faculty and staff are helping the College achieve its three broad strategic goals: excellence in teaching, research, and service; growth in enrollment and increased diversity; and increased public and private support.

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, is the land-grant research institution in the state and serves as the major center of liberal and professional education. It is Arkansas' major source of theoretical and applied research and provides of a wide range of services to people throughout the state and nation. Fayetteville is located in the beautiful Boston Mountain Range in the Northwest corner of the state with an approximate metropolitan population of over 200,000 residents. The city and area have been featured in numerous publications as a very desirable and economical place to live and most recently was listed by Money magazine as one of the "100 Best Places to Live."

Annual Salary:
This is a 9-month, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Contingent on available funding and demand, an additional summer appointment is possible.

Description:
The College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, invites nominations and applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Counselor Education in the Department of Rehabilitation, Human Resources and Communication Disorders.

The anticipated starting date is August 18, 2008 (Fall 2008 Semester).

Minimum Requirements:
The individual selected for this position will be expected to possess the following required qualifications:

1. An earned doctorate from a nationally recognized and accredited institution in Counselor Education (doctorate must be completed by August 2008);
2. Eligibility for Arkansas state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC);
3. Doctoral-level preparation in clinical supervision;
4. Commitment to the active pursuit of a research agenda leading to refereed scholarship, professional presentations, and external funding;
5. Strong interest in and a professional commitment to the preparation of professional school counselors, clinical mental health counselors, college and student development counselors, and counselor educators;
6. Demonstrated leadership ability consistent with the coordination of a school counseling program; and
7. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and collegiality.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

1. Graduate of a CACREP-accredited counseling program;
2. School counseling experience in a K-12 school setting; and
3. Demonstrated ability to secure external grant funding.

Job Duties:
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Coordinating the degree and non-degree programs in the school counseling track;
2. teaching graduate courses in all four areas;
3. directing student independent research, theses, and dissertations; 4. advising students and serving on committees;
5. conducting research resulting in professional presentations and refereed publications;
6. pursuing external funding through grant proposal submissions;
7. participating in public service and professional organizations; and 8. engaging in service activities in service activities at the program, department, college, and university levels.
