Summary:
A total of 55 faculty in various disciplines are housed in the Departments of Animal and Poultry Science. The Department of Poultry Science and affiliated USDA-ARS scientists that comprise the Center of Excellence for Poultry Science are housed in the John W. Tyson building, a 112,000 square foot laboratory and classroom and office complex located on the campus of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The Center includes a poultry research farm, a pilot processing plant, feed mill, poultry health and isolation unit, and commercial style research farms for broilers and broiler breeders. Within the Center is a campus-wide DNA resource Center, a departmental Cell Sorting and Characterization Center, and a State-Wide Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. The Department of Animal Science has a 160-sow farrow-to-finish swine unit with all buildings either new or rebuilt since 2000. Extensive capabilities for replicated studies with newly received beef calves, replicated grazing systems and three cowherds are available. Laboratory facilities complement those in the Poultry Science Department. The Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center is available for meetings and conferences. Both departments offer undergraduate, M.S. and Ph.D. programs.

Associate or Full Professor; Twelve month, Tenure Track negotiable with 60% Research, 25% Teaching and 15% Extension appointment.
Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D. and/or DVM with relevant experience in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Animal Biology or closely related discipline is required. The successful candidate will develop and operate a comprehensive and science-based program on agricultural food animal wellbeing that will be recognized internationally for its scholarship. Demonstrated expertise and ability to communicate with professional, stakeholder, public and student audiences on the science related to agricultural food animal wellbeing is essential. Demonstrated ability to publish research in appropriate outlets and to obtain extramural funding to support the program is required. Ability and experience to effectively contribute to interdisciplinary teams is desired.
Job Duties:
The wellbeing of food animals inseparably links ethical human stewardship with optimal productive performance. In order to promote interdisciplinary research, teaching and extension defining the humane management of food animals, key agribusinesses and members of the food industry have endowed a Chair for Agricultural Food Animal Wellbeing at the University of Arkansas. The Chair position will coordinate interdisciplinary research and education involving food animal (livestock and poultry) wellbeing. The successful candidate will be expected to develop innovative, internationally recognized programs with excellence in research, teaching and service. These programs will advance and communicate the science of animal wellbeing in production livestock systems. The successful candidate is expected to publish relevant research and to pursue extramural support for the research program, as well as for extension and teaching. The candidate must be interested in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Excellent opportunities exist for interdisciplinary and collaborative research with faculty within the departments, college and campus.
