National Institute for Aviation Research

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR), located at Wichita State University, is a premier aviation research organization that has gained national and international recognition for its programs and laboratories. NIAR is engaged in basic and applied research, testing and certification. The city of Wichita is a home of major aerospace industry, namely Spirit Aerosystems, Boeing, Hawker Beechcraft, Cessna, Bombardier-Learjet and many aviation suppliers. NIAR is seeking a candidate for the position Research Engineer. To be considered for the position, applicants must provide a resume and three professional related references. The Research Engineer for the Crash Dynamics Laboratory (CDL) of the National Institute for Aviation Research assists the laboratory director with oversight of the laboratory operations, provides technical support for Government, Faculty, and Industry sponsored test programs, and provides maintenance support for the lab’s mechanical and electronic equipment. The nature of test operations of a high-energy facility of this type requires a person who is knowledgeable of and practices all elements of the personnel and equipment safety programs.

Required Qualifications:
1. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident at the time of employment.
2. Have a Bachelor of Science Degree in an accredited engineering discipline or equivalent work experience.
3. Be willing to work flexible hours at relatively short notice.
4. Must have the capability to interact effectively with customers, faculty, and staff

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Have an engineering degree, preferably in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
2. Have working experience in a crash sled environment.
3. Have working experience with computer controlled data acquisition systems and instrumentation systems.
4. Have experience in personnel and equipment safety.
5. Have working experience with computer programming with Microsoft VB.net.
6. Be knowledge and experienced in computer modeling in CATIA V5.
7. Be knowledge and have experience with the setup, operation, and analysis of mobile Coordinate Measuring Machines (CCM) such as FARO or the like.
